Creating Stories that Contest Cultural Marginalization
A Master Class
led by Onawumi Jean Moss
10:00am-12:00pm
Create stories with strong multicultural content
that honor both the dignity of the selected cultures and creators of
the story. Participants will have a chance to share memorable
intercultural experiences and observations. In addition to
stories worthy of celebration, participants should be prepared to
discuss such issues as prejudice, stereotypes, and the
effect of cultural invisibility. Examine relevant educational
materials. Participate in interactive activities. At
least one short story model will be used to facilitate story
construction and participants will work in small groups to expedite
the creative and writing process.
Once Upon a Time, When No One Was Looking:
Families Telling Stories
An
Adult/Child Workshop led by Bill Harley
11:00am-12:00pm
Bring your brother, or sister, or mom, or dad, or
son or daughter or grandparent. In this hour long workshop, Bill
will get families to tell their own stories about things that have
happened. Using prompts and a couple of story games, we’ll find
out what’s funny about getting in trouble, and be reminded that all
families are weird – but just in different ways.
